On the Arab issues, late King Abdullah has a great emphasis. He was every time and then calling for Arab unity to bring about peace in the region. The Palestinian issue and Al-Quds were top of his interests. Addressing Arab summits, he questioned about "what we have done for the Arab economic unity, the activation of the Arab Joint Defense Treaty and what is happening in Palestine". Historically, he is the only Arab leader to admit that "all of us fell short of our nations aspirations" towards its crucial issues, including Palestine. In a press interview, he was quoted as saying that the opportunities of making unity are far promising in our region than the Europeans have. Addressing the 33rd GCC summit in Bahrain, he called for upgrading the GCC from cooperation to unity, repeating the call at a later Riyadh summit. Deputized by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, late Crown Prince Naif bin Abdulaziz Al Saud also called for GCC solidarity and unity. In the most recent GCC summit held in Riyadh, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud expressed hope that the meeting achieves the aspirations of the GCC peoples so that the group would turn more consistent and united to achieve the goals of solidarity and unity, the pillars on which the GCC was established. --SPA 23:02 LOCAL TIME 20:02 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
