UNITED NATIONS, Jumada II 25, 1436, Apr. 14, 2015, SPA -- The U.N. Security Council Tuesday approved an arms embargo on leaders of Yemen’s Houthi rebels and their key supporters, former President Ali Abdullah Saleh and his son. The council added the names of the son of the former president and the Houthi leader to the black list. The council approved the embargo in a 14 to 0 vote, with Russia abstaining. The resolution intends to end the Houthi military campaign against supporters of President Abdrabbo Mansour Hadi and the rebels’ attempt to take over the country. The resolution demands that all Yemeni parties, especially the Houthis, end the violence and “resume and accelerate” U.N.-backed negotiations to continue the country’s political transition process. -- SPA 21:48 LOCAL TIME 18:48 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
