New York, Jumada I 29, 1436, Mar 20, 2015, SPA -- The United Nations marked the International Day of Happiness Friday by launching a playlist of the world's happiest songs compiled by celebrities and people worldwide, dpa reported. The Day of Happiness, which has been observed by UN member states since 2012, recognizes happiness as a "fundamental human goal" and aims to highlight the importance of development that promotes well-being. The playlist, which was launched at the South by Southwest (SXSW) creative festival on Friday, was compiled by UN celebrity advocates, such as actors Charlize Theron and Michael Douglas, and other famous artists including singers James Blunt, Pharrell Williams and John Legend. The campaign also asked for recommendations from people from around world using the Twitter campaign #HappySoundsLike. Pharrell, known for his Grammy-winning hit Happy, was also set to take the stage for a celebration at UN Headquarters later on Friday. UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said happiness for the entire humanity is one of the fundamental goals of the UN. "Peace, prosperity, lives of dignity for all - this is what we seek," Ban said. "Let us give thanks for what makes us happy. And let us dedicate our efforts to filling our world with happiness." # Notebook ## Internet links - [Day of Happiness](http://dpaq.de/VM0OW) - [Playlist](http://dpaq.de/AEzaK) * * * * The following information is not intended for publication ## Editorial contacts - Reporting by: Emoke Bebiak - Editing by: Pat Reber (Washington), 1-202-662-1241, dpa emb pr 201744 GMT Mrz 15 21:52 LOCAL TIME 18:52 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
