Kiev, Muharram 02, 1436, October 26, 2014, SPA -- Ukranians went to the polls Sunday, where some 36 million voters were to elect a new parliament, dpa reported. The pro-Western leadership in Kiev hopes that the snap elections will bring more stability to the crisis-hit country, where more than 3,600 people have been killed in an ongoing conflict with pro-Russian separatists this year. Polls predict that the party of President Petro Poroshenko and other pro-Western political groups will win a majority in the 450-seat unicameral parliament, the Verkhovna Rada. Overall, 36 million Ukrainians are eligible to cast a ballot. But voting will be limited to government-controlled areas, meaning that some 3 million voters in the eastern Donetsk and Luhansk regions won't participate. --SPA 12:02 LOCAL TIME 09:02 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
