Washington, Dhu-AlQa'dah 21, 1435, Sep 16, 2014, SPA -- A wildfire destroyed nearly 100 homes in Weed, California, on Monday, and at least 1,500 people were forced to flee, officials said Tuesday. The fire erupted in the southern part of the town bordering Oregon, and blazed through 140 hectares, forcing 1,500 to 2,000 people to flee, said Siskiyou County Sheriff Department spokeswoman Allison Giannini. Winds causing the spread of the fire ceased Monday night as 15 percent of the fire was contained. Some houses were completely burned, electric power went out, but no deaths or injuries were reported. The wildfire, which started on Friday, was the latest to hit the area. A previous fire this summer destroyed eight structures, according to the U.S. Forest Service. --SPA 18:16 LOCAL TIME 15:16 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
