Kuala Lumpur, Safar 25, 1438, Nov 25, 2016, SPA -- Malaysia said Friday it would summon Myanmar's ambassador over the escalating violence in northern Rakhine state that has driven thousands of ethnic Rohingyas to flee the country. The Foreign Ministry said the cabinet - headed by Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak - had discussed the situation in the neighboring country during its weekly meeting Friday. "Malaysia condemns the escalation of violence in the northern Rakhine State over the past months resulting in the loss of innocent lives and displacement of people," dpa quoted the ministry as saying in a statement. "Malaysia also calls on the government of Myanmar to take all the necessary actions to address the alleged ethnic cleansing in the northern Rakhine State," it said. --SPA 16:53 LOCAL TIME 13:53 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w276834
