Mexico City, Safar 25, 1438, Nov 25, 2016, SPA -- A magnitude-7.0 earthquake struck off the coast of El Salvador and Nicaragua on Thursday. According to dpa, the epicentre of the quake was about 150 kilometres south-west of the Salvadoran town Puerto El Triunfo in the Pacific Ocean, the US Geological Survey (USGS) said. In El Salvador the quake could be felt in the regions of Chalatenango, San Salvador, Cabanas and San Miguel. El Salvador sits along the major seismic zone known as the Pacific Ring of Fire, a series of faults marked by 450 active volcanoes over 40,000 kilometres. Over the last two weeks, earthquakes with magnitudes over 7.0 have hit Japan and New Zealand, both of which are also near the Ring of Fire. --SPA 12:34 LOCAL TIME 09:34 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w276687
