New York, 26 June 2019 SPA -- The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has affirmed that the right of Palestinians and their descendants to return to their homeland is inalienable; it is one of the rights which is established and does not expire in time; and in addition to its being a human and moral right, it is a legal and political right guaranteed by international resolutions. This came in a speech delivered by the Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations, Ambassador Abdullah bin Yahya Al-Mouallimi at the Conference of Supporting the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) held on Tuesday at the UN headquarters in New York. Ambassador Al-Mouallimi noted that Saudi Arabia is one of the largest countries in support of the Palestinian people and the largest donor country to UNRWA, as an embodiment of its honorable roles in defending the Palestinian cause and the rights of the Palestinian people to achieve their legitimate aspirations, which was confirmed in three Makkah summits, (Gulf, Arab and Islamic) hosted by the Kingdom last month. He added that the Kingdom will continue to be a leader in its support for Palestinian refugees and their cause, stressing that the Kingdom will make every effort to find sustainable solutions to the challenges facing UNRWA, renewing his call to the international community to support UNRWA's needs. The Ambassador said, "Between 2000 and 2019, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia provided UNRWA with nearly $ 1 billion to support its noble programs and provide humanitarian assistance and basic needs for Palestinian refugees, and the total assistance provided by the Kingdom to Palestine reached approximately $ 7 billion over the same period through supporting more than 200 humanitarian, developmental and charitable projects ". -- SPA 16:02 LOCAL TIME 13:02 GMT 0018 www.spa.gov.sa/w1126438
