Johannesburg, Safar 18, 1440, Oct 27, 2018, SPA -- Two peacekeepers were killed in twin attacks on United Nations bases in Mali on Saturday, the UN mission in Mali said. In a dawn attack, fighters armed with rocket launchers and machine guns on the back of pick-up trucks attacked a peacekeepers' base, in Ber, in the northern Timbuktu region, the mission said in a statement. A few hours later, near the town of Mopti in the centre of the country, fighters attacked a UN base with improvised explosive devices, the statement said. Two peacekeepers were killed and several others wounded. The attackers were not identified. The head of the mission Mahamat Saleh Annadif, condemned the attack and called for the arrest and prosecution of the attackers. United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilisation Mission, in Mali, known by the acronym Minusma, was established, in April 2013. Mali's North has experienced regular flare-ups of violence and attacks on peacekeepers and Malian soldiers, in the wake of a 2012 military coup that saw separatist rebel groups and later al-Qaeda-associated militants, take control of the region. -- SPA 21:28 LOCAL TIME 18:28 GMT 0028 www.spa.gov.sa/w776868
