Geneva, Muharram 18, 1440, Sep 28, 2018, SPA -- Members of the 47-nation International Human Rights Council (HRC), in Geneva split for the first time, on the human rights issue, in Yemen. 26 states, out of the total membership, either, outright rejected, or abstained from voting to extend the work of the Panel of Experts, demonstrating their doubts about the allegations, in the report of the panel, in Yemen, and their doubts about both the integrity and credibility of the report presented, before the council. In contrast, the Arab draft resolution to support the Yemeni National Committee, in the field of human rights, succeeded in obtaining the support of the council, and providing technical assistance, unanimously, due to its efforts, in Yemen. At the end of the voting session held here today, the Yemeni government (the concerned state) registered a written objection, in regard to the second item, in the decision for an additional general extension of the international team of experts. The meeting was preceded by a Yemeni government's refusal of the report for lack of professionalism and impartiality of the international team of experts for covering up the crimes of the Iranian-backed Houthi militia, in Yemen and its apparent bias towards the terrorist group, in order to create a new context that contravenes UN Security Council resolutions, on Yemen, announcing total rejection of the extension of the group of experts work, for another year. For its part, the Coalition to Restore Legitimacy, in Yemen, announced rejection of the report of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, too, for avoidance of objectivity, ignoring the evidence of Iran's role in the continuation of the conflict and openly opposing the content of the Charter of the United Nations and Security Council resolution 2216. On the other hand, Saudi candidate Dr. Ibrahim Al-Shuddi, succeeded in winning the membership of the Advisory Committee of the UN Human Rights' watchdog. -- SPA 21:26 LOCAL TIME 18:26 GMT 0018 www.spa.gov.sa/w757458
