49 People Stranded after Two Boats, Jet Ski Sink Off Phuket, Thailand

A tourist boat carrying 90 Chinese tourists sank off Koh Hae, 10 kilometers south of Phuket, due to strong sea currents, dpa quoted Somsak Soprakarn of Phuket police as saying. A yacht carrying 39 people of unknown nationality also sank off Koh Mai Ton, nine kilometers south-east of Phuket, Somsak said. Phuket Marine Police have rescued up to 80 passengers in total, but the remaining 49 people have not yet been found, the policeman said. A Russian couple rented a jet ski, which was overturned by strong winds and lost contact near Koh Racha, 15 kilometers from Phuket.
