Chinese Ambassador visits Saudi-Chinese exploration team at Al-Serrian archaeological site

Riyadh, 01 Sha'ban,1439 AH, 17 April,2018 , SPA -- The Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to the Kingdom Li Huaxin, accompanied by the Director General of the Center for Research and Archaeological Studies at Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage, Dr. Abdullah Al-Zahrani, has recently visited Al-Serrian site in Al-Qunfudah province to inspect the works being carried out by the Joint Saudi-Chinese Team. The Saudi-Chinese project includes a number of archeological specialists in sunken monuments from both sides. A number of archaeological works will be carried out, including a wide range of advanced techniques and field surveys over the next five years, as well as sounding of submerged ruins in the water adjacent to the archaeological site. The Saudi-Chinese Project for Archaeological Exploration at Al-Serrian, north of Qunfudah, is considered one of the new scientific projects being carried out by the Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage in cooperation with the Chinese Center for Underwater Heritage, whereas 31 international and local missions are working in various regions of the Kingdom. The archaeological excavations at the site started last year through a Saudi team of the Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage, where the team found pottery fragments of Chinese porcelain, in addition to various mineral ruins dated back to successive Islamic periods from the first centuries of Hijra. -- SPA 13:07 LOCAL TIME 10:07 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w670046
