Northern Zambia rocked by 5.9-magnitude quake, says US agency

Johannesburg, Jumada I 27, 1438, Feb 24, 2017, SPA -- A 5.9-magnitude earthquake struck east Africa early Friday, reports the US Geological Survey. According to dpa, the quake had its epicentre 46 kilometres from the Zambian town of Kaputa, which is located near the borders of Congo and Tanzania. It struck in the middle of the night, at 0032 GMT. The quake occurred at a depth of 26.7 kilometres. Its effects were not immediately known. --SPA 12:05 LOCAL TIME 09:05 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w339596
