New Delhi, Rabi'I 18, 1438, Dec 17, 2016, SPA -- At least two people were killed and hundreds rendered homeless after a fire broke out at a slum in Kolkata on Saturday, police said. The blaze, which erupted in the northern Belagachia area of the Indian city early Saturday, was contained by 16 fire engines and several firefighters. "It was a major fire. Two slum-dwellers were killed and around three dozen shanties gutted," a local police officer told dpa on the phone. "The cause of the fire is not known, but it is likely due to a cooking gas cylinder blast," he added. --SPA 14:25 LOCAL TIME 11:25 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w292352
