Riyadh, Safar 29, 1438, Nov 29, 2016, SPA -- The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Member States rejected and condemned the formation by Yemen's Houthis and former president Ali Abdullah Saleh of a so-called National Salvation Government. In a statement, GCC Secretary General Abdullatif Al-Zayani said that the GCC member states categorically reject Houthi's recently announced government on the basis that President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi's government is the legitimate one constitutionally and legally. He reiterated that Hadi's government is recognized by the Arab League, Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the UN. The new step by Houthis and Saleh shows that they are not serious about political negotiations, and seek to impede fervent efforts to stop war in Yemen and to revive political talks in line with the UN roadmap, Gulf Initiative, Output of National Dialogue and UN Security Council Resolution 2216, Al-Zayani added. Houthis and their political allies had formed a new government, calling it "National Salvation Government", as was reported by Houthis-controlled news agency. Such a step is considered a blow to UN-backed efforts to end 20 months of war in this Arab country, the statement said. --SPA 19:41 LOCAL TIME 16:41 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w279656
