17 Terror Suspects Referred to Bahraini Court

Manama, Dhu-AlHijjah 19, 1437, Sep 21, 2016, SPA -- Bahraini Chief Prosecutor Essa Al-Rowaie said the Terror Crime Prosecution investigated the attempted-murder attack in which a Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officer was shot. The investigations were launched as soon as the prosecution was informed about the attack on May 22. According to BNA, 17 suspects, 11 of whom were in custody and the rest still at large, were charged for forming and joining a terrorist group, the attempted murder of a public officer, training on the illegal use of firearms, explosives, and ammunition, sheltering runaway criminals and knowing about the occurrence of a crime without informing the authorities. To carry out their scheme, the suspects acquired weapons to use in the crime and decided on the location where to commit the crime. A CID officer was wooed by one of the suspects to Sitra area on May 22. Another suspect who had received military training on the use of weapons and explosives shot him as soon as he arrived at the location. Security investigations identified 17 suspects, and 11 of suspects were arrested confessed to having joined the terrorist group and to having received military training. They also admitted all the charges A search of the residences and hideouts revealed tools used in committing their crimes and the firearm used in the shooting and some ammunition were also seized. The investigations relied on the victim's testimony, the reports of the investigations, the statements of the officers who carried out the arrests, the confessions of the arrested suspects, the technical reports and photographic evidence.
