Jakarta, Dhu-AlHijjah 20, 1437, Sep 21, 2016, SPA -- Nineteen people have been killed and nine are missing after landslides and flash floods in Indonesia's West Java province, officials said Wednesday. Sixteen people died in Garut district early Wednesday after they were swept away by floodwaters from an overflowing river and eight people were missing, said Sutopo Nugroho, dpa cited spokesman for the national disaster management agency as saying. More than 1,000 residents were displaced and had to seek refuge in a military complex and other buildings, according to Nugroho. In Sumedang district, three people died and another went missing in landslides on Tuesday, he said. Floods and landslides are common in Indonesia during the rainy season, which usually starts in October. --SPA. 13:51 LOCAL TIME 10:51 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
