New York, Dhu-AlQa'dah 14, 1437, Aug 17, 2016, SPA -- The intensifying conflict in Afghanistan has resulted in significant increases in displacement and civilian casualties over the past six months, dpa cited the United Nations as warning in a report released Wednesday. The number of internally displaced persons reached 169,000 between January and June, a 17-per-cent increase on the same time period in 2015. Since June, the figure has risen to 182,680, according to the report by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA). Afghan security forces are battling growing insurgencies throughout the country from both the terrorist Taliban and Daesh. More than 5,100 civilians have been killed or injured in the first part of the 2016. The number of patients receiving first aid treatment for weapon or conflict-related trauma - which includes psychological care and emergency treatment for sick people with no local access to healthcare - has risen to over 32,300, which is a 20-per-cent increase compared to the same period last year. --SPA 20:18 LOCAL TIME 17:18 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
