Washington, Dhu-AlQa'dah 3, 1437, Aug 6, 2016, SPA -- The United States killed three members of al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) in an airstrike in central Yemen, US military authorities announced Friday, dpa reported. The airstrike, which took place on Thursday, occurred in Shabwah Governorate, US Central Command said in a statement. "AQAP remains a significant threat to the region, the United States and beyond," Central Command said. "[Al-Qaeda's] presence has a destabilizing effect on Yemen; it is using the unrest in Yemen to provide a haven from which to plan future attacks against our allies as well as the US and its interests."
