Banjul, Shawwal 15, 1437, July 20, 2016, SPA -- Gambia's main opposition leader Ousainou Darboe and 18 of his supporters were on Wednesday sentenced to three years in jail, the court announced, according to dpa. They had been charged with multiple offences including unlawful assembly and inciting violence. They had been arrested on April 16 after participating in a demonstration demanding justice for their party's organizing secretary Solo Sandeng, who died in custody. Darboe denied the charges against him and said the trial was politically motivated. --SPA 22:06 LOCAL TIME 19:06 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
