Dhaka, Sha'ban 13, 1437, May 20, 2016, SPA -- Bangladesh on Friday has told maritime ports and more than 2 million coastal residents to take precautions as a cyclone approaches the country's coast from the Bay of Bengal, according to dpa. Cyclone Roanu was located 470 kilometres south-west of Bangladesh's second largest port of Mongla at 9 pm (1500 GMT), the met office said in a special bulletin. Nearly 2.1 million people living in 18 coastal districts have been told to be prepared to move if necessary to more than 3,500 cyclone shelters, Disaster Management Secretary Shah Kamal said. The tropical storm with recorded wind speeds of between 62 and 88 kilometres per hour around a 54-square-kilometre centre was moving towards land at between 30 to 35 kilometers per hour, said Dhaka met office official Shamsuddin, who is identified by single name. The wind speeds are likely to increase as the storm is expected to make landfall on the Bangladesh coast Saturday evening, he said. --SPA 23:11 LOCAL TIME 20:11 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
