United Nations, Ramadan 07, 1439, May 23, 2018, SPA --The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has affirmed that it is time for the perpetrators of aggressive acts against civilians to realize that their crimes will not escape holding accountability, demanding to punish those who do not recognize their responsibility for the crimes they committed as they kill in cold blood by snipers in Gaza or explosive barrels and chemical weapons in Syria, or by any other means in many places in the world. This came in a speech delivered yesterday by the Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations, Ambassador Abdullah bin Yahya Al-Mo'ellemi before the United Nations Security Council in the open ministerial discussion on "Protecting civilians during armed conflicts". Ambassador Al-Mo'ellemi reminded of the rules and principles of the Islamic religion in the case of wars, which should be committed at all times and places, pointing out that the reality we are witnessing in the world today is a bitter and painful reality, far from these principles that emphasize the inviolability of civilians also guaranteed by international laws as they are violated without fear of accountability and without regard to humanitarian standards. Ambassador Al-Mo'ellemi added that "before days, we had witnessed a new massacre committed by Israeli occupation forces in Gaza, which killed dozens of Palestinian martyrs and thousands of the wounded. And for seven consecutive years, the world has also witnessed the bloodletting in Syria, which killed hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians, using various means of killing and genocide. In Myanmar, the world is watching the hundreds of thousands of Muslim Rohingyas as they are driven out of their homes which are burnt, their women are raped and children displaced." He noted that in Yemen, Iranian- backed Houthi gangs have been practicing the worst forms of abuse of civilians including recruitment of children, planting mines in civilian neighborhoods and using of human shields, as is the case of the girl (Jamila) four-year-old, who was saved by the coalition forces to restore the legitimacy in Yemen and handed over to her family and relatives. Ambassador Al-Mo'ellemi stressed that it is time for the perpetrators of aggressive acts against civilians to realize that their crimes will not escape accountability, therefore the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia supported the formation of inquiry committee into Israel's crimes in Gaza and supported the mechanism of collecting documents and evidence to hold the perpetrators of the war crimes the accountability in Syria, demanding the necessity of facilitating the returning of Rohingyas who have been expelled from their country in a safe, dignified and voluntary way and taking the necessary means to hold the accountability to those who caused their harm. --SPA 12:45 LOCAL TIME 09:45 GMT 0004 www.spa.gov.sa/w692653
