In a press statement published on UNICEF's official website, Geert Cappelaere, UNICEF's Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa, welcomed the Kingdom’s contribution worth USD $4.7 million in support of programs to vaccinate children against preventable diseases. UNICEF also received an additional contribution of USD $33 million to support its ongoing activities in Yemen to fight the outbreak of cholera and acute watery diarrhea, he pointed out. This contribution comes under directives from HRH Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, to the King Salman Humanitarian Aid & Relief Centre (KSrelief) to allocate USD $66.7 million in response to funding appeals from both WHO and UNICEF to help the organizations fight the cholera epidemic, including support for the water and environmental sanitation sectors in Yemen. In a press statement, Cappelaere stated that, "The contribution from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia comes at a critical time.
