Amman, Rajab 23, 1439, Apr 9, 2018, SPA -- Jordan on Monday condemned a chemical weapons attack in the town of Douma in the Ghouta near the Syrian capital Damascus, which left dozens of innocent civilians dead, and called for an urgent international investigation. State Minister for Media Affairs and official government spokesman, Mohammad Momani, said that "as Jordan expresses its strong condemnation and denunciation of this vicious crime, it supports the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons' intention to conduct a thorough investigation into this attack, and the adoption of a suitable position by the international community toward its perpetrator." Momani reiterated Jordan's position that the Syrian conflict should be resolved politically to spare the country and its "brotherly" people more wars and destruction. He said that the Syrians are now called on more than ever to stop the infighting, listen to the voice of reason and wisdom and start negotiations to end the protracted conflict and reach a political solution that safeguards the country's unity and averts it further destruction and bloodshed. --SPA 19:29 LOCAL TIME 16:29 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w663478
