Committee of Permanent Representatives of OIC Member States Issues Final Communique on Attempts to Change Legal and Historical Status of Al-Quds and to Transfer Diplomatic Missions Thereto 3 Jeddah

It stressed that the first step on the path to peace and security in the Middle East is not recognize what the occupying power of Israel is up to, forcing it to withdraw from the territory of the Palestinian State, on top of which the city of Al-Quds Al-Sharif, in implementation of the relevant international resolutions and called upon the United States not to be swayed and aligned with the Israeli occupation and imperialism, and not take any of the previously mentioned actions consecrating the annexation of Al-Quds, causing the United States to lose the legal and moral ground and its mediating role, and turning it into a biased party to the conflict. The statement urged the United States of America to continue positively and fairly mediating to bring about lasting and comprehensive peace on the basis of the two-state solution, pursuant to the relevant UN resolutions, the peace process terms of reference, the rules of the international law, the Arab Peace Initiative of 2002, and the land-for-peace principle, called upon all the Member States to address instant messages on the gravity of transferring the embassy or recognizing the annexation of Al-Quds, called for immediate action by the Ministerial Contact Group on al-Quds to reach out to state capitals in connection with the seriousness of this move, and called for promoting coordination and cooperation between the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the League of Arab States to face any step that could prejudice the legal and historical status of Al-Quds. OIC requested the Islamic group’s ambassadors to the United Nations, especially at the Security Council, to take the necessary measures, in coordination with the Arab group’s counterparts, to act promptly to face the actions aimed at changing the status of Al-Quds, including a call for an urgent session of the Security Council on state violations and abuses of its resolutions. In light of the possible step by the United States to recognize Al-Quds as the so-called "capital of Israel", OIC recommended by consensus the convening of the extraordinary Council of Foreign Ministers and extraordinary Islamic Summit conference as soon as possible at date and place to be decided, and entrusted the OIC Secretary General to follow developments in this regard, and report thereon to the upcoming session of the Council of Foreign Ministers. --SPA 20:12 LOCAL TIME 17:12 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w554580
