Tikrit, Dhu-AlHijjah 11, 1438, Sep 2, 2017, SPA -- Eight people were killed in an attack on a government-run power station in northern Iraq, a security official said on Saturday. The attackers sneaked into the plant south of the city of Samarra, around 50 kilometers from the city of Tikrit, early in the morning, the official added on condition of anonymity. They killed eight people at the facility: six workers and two security force members. Nine security personnel were also injured, dpa reported. The attackers briefly besieged the site, where other workers were present. Security forces later clashed with the attackers, killing seven of them and ending the siege on workers. An eighth suicide bomber blew himself up. --SPA 14:54 LOCAL TIME 11:54 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w480198
