Sudan to offer 10,000 tons of corn to famine-stricken South Sudan

Khartoum, Jumada II 12, 1438, Mar 11, 2017, SPA -- President Omar Al-Basheer of The Sudan today instructed the provision of famine-hit people in South Sudan with as much as 10,000 tons of corn in addition to a previous donation of 27,000 bags of corn, opening of safe havens to deliver assistance and provision of accommodation to thousands of refugees, it was reported here today. Ahmed Mohammed Adam, the rapporteur of the higher committee for humanitarian assistance, said in a press statement today that the issue of containing the famine in South Sudan receives increasing interest and care by the government of The Sudan as well as all sectors of the Sudanese society based on the close historical ties binding the peoples of the two countries, the duty of fraternity and neighborhood and in response to the religious and humanitarian duties. A national committee, led by former President of The Sudan General Abdulrahman Suwaral Dahab, was formed to supervise providing assistance to the needy in the southern country and alleviate their sufferings and tackle the deteriorating humanitarian situations. --SPA 00:49 LOCAL TIME 21:49 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w350955
