Barcelona, Jumada II 12, 1438, Mar 11, 2017, SPA -- Sevilla dropped two points in the Spanish title race as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Leganes on Saturday. Jorge Sampaoli's side are slipping out of championship contention having now drawn their last two games. Leganes took a shock lead in the second minute when Gabriel Pires scored with a back-heel from a Nabil El Zhar cross. Sevilla equalized just before half time when Franco Vazquez put Stefan Jovetic through and he touched the ball around goalkeeper Iago Herrerin before scoring into the empty net. Assist-provider Vazquez had been unfortunate earlier when he scored with his chest only for the goal to be ruled offside. Sevilla never looked like finding the winner in the second half with Leganes looking the better side in the latter stages of the game. They are now three points behind leaders Barcelona having played a game more. Sevilla also trail second-placed Real Madrid by two points with the European champions having played two games less. "We did not play a very good game," said Jovetic. "We have to lift ourselves quickly because we have another game on Tuesday." Sevilla face Leicester in the Champions League this week with only a slender 2-1 advantage from the first leg. Earlier Saturday, Valencia salvaged a late point at Mestalla against Sporting Gijon. Duje Cop put Sporting ahead on the hour after Daniel Parejo missed a penalty for the hosts but Munir El Haddadi headed in the equalizer with six minutes left. In the later games Malaga play Alaves and Granada host Atletico Madrid. -- SPA 22:24 LOCAL TIME 19:24 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w350916
