At least six dead in powerful earthquake in Philippines

Manila, Jumada I 14, 1438, Feb 11, 2017, SPA -- A powerful earthquake in the southern Philippines has killed at least six people and injured more than 100 others, local officials said Saturday. According to dpa, the magnitude-6.7 quake knocked out electricity and caused several structures to collapse late Friday in the province of Surigao del Norte, 730 kilometres south of Manila. The earthquake struck at 10.03 pm (1403 GMT), according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology. "There is chaos, many of those affected are in shock," provincial Governor Sol Matugas said in an interview with a Manila radio station Saturday. "Many areas do not have electricity, and the airport has been closed." A total of 108 people were injured said April Rose Sanchez, a spokesman for the regional disaster relief agency.
