New York, Rabi'I 24, 1438, Dec 23, 2016, SPA -- An apartment fire in Manhattan injured 24 people on Thursday, six of them seriously, according to the New York City Fire Department (FDNY). According to dpa, four firefighters were also injured while fighting the blaze on Manhattan's West 59th Street, the FDNY said on its Twitter feed. Broadcaster ABC News said the fire started about 5pm (2200 GMT) in an apartment on the third floor of a 33-storey, 465-unit building. The blaze was extinguished about two hours later, the report said. Thick smoke reached higher floors of the building, while heavy winds hampered efforts to put the fire out, ABC reported. The cause of the fire is not yet known. --SPA 11:51 LOCAL TIME 08:51 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w297082
