According to dpa, the fire killed Tran Anh Thang, 47, his wife, Nguyen Thi Ngoc Thuy, 37, their three young daughters and a 36-year-old niece, the Tuoi Tre newspaper reported. The blaze spread upwards from the ground floor, which Thang had leased to run a cafe, Tuoi Tre said. Second floor residents saved themselves by jumping from a balcony, according to Tuoi Tre.
