Cairo, Safar 16, 1438, November 16, 2016, SPA -- Arab League's Deputy Secretary General Ahmed bin Hali confirmed today that the call for Arab unity and support for Arab ranks is a basic action and a continuing goal for the Arab League. In remarks to journalists on the outcome of the visit of Ahmed Abul-Ghait, Arab League's Secretary General to Riyadh yesterday, bin Hali said the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is considered one of the pivotal and basic forces in the Arab system. When a state in the size of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia speaks about unifying Arab ranks, we have to appreciate this and praise it in the capacity that the Kingdom is a pivotal and basic force in the Arab system, bin Hali said, adding that "as long as we are united then we are strong, otherwise we are getting weakened". As for finding a solution to the Yemeni crisis, bin Hali said the Arab League is for supporting dialogue among Yemeni rivals to reach a political solution to the crisis. He said the Cairo-based Arab League is in contact with the UN envoy for Yemen Ismail Ould Al-Chiech Ahmed and the legitimate government to push for a political solution to the Yemeni crisis. He stated that the Arab League's vision for solving the Yemeni crisis is based on three pillars: the GCC initiative and its executive mechanism, the outcome of the national dialogue of Yemen and the UN-Security Council relevant resolutions. He added that those references would lead to the assembling of the warring factions at a single negotiation table to find a political solution to the current crisis, requiring those who violated the legitimacy to come to reason and take their natural seat to negotiate an Arab and regionally-supported UN plan to find a peaceful solution to the Yemeni crisis based on immediate and lasting ceasefire.
