NEW YORK, Dhu-AlHijjah 22, 1437, Sep 24, 2016, SPA -- Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the United Arab Emirates, said that the UAE has unwavering faith in the role of the United Nations and its organs, especially the UN Security Council, in maintaining international peace and security. He added that the UAE expects the United Nations to play an effective role in addressing and resolving conflicts, and strengthening states’ fortitude through a framework that ensures respect for the national sovereignty of states and non-interference in their internal affairs. In his statement at the General Debate of the 71st Session of the United Nations General Assembly, in New York, Sheikh Abdullah said, "Our region, which suffers from serious crises and conflicts, urgently needs a more effective method to confront these crises and disputes based on deep rooted solutions backed by the international community." Sheikh Abdullah said that countering terrorist groups is a right and duty of all states.
