Washington, Ramadan 11, 1437, Jun 16, 2016, SPA -- The US Navy has sent a ship to the Aegan Sea to support the NATO effort to stem the flow of migrants travelling from Turkey to Greece, the US European Command (EUCOM) announced Thursday, dpa reported. The USNS Grapple's mission will be focussed on maritime surveillance and reconnaissance. "In an effort to assist in the on-going refugee crisis, our Naval component is deploying USNS Grapple as a tangible demonstration of US support to the NATO mission in the Aegean Sea," EUCOM head General Curtis Scaparrotti said in a statement. The NATO naval assets maintain a watch along the coasts and alert national authorities of any criminal smuggling activity. On Thursday fishermen rescued 60 people from a migrant boat that had run aground near the island of Lesbos. The exodus out of Turkey has slowed markedly recently. In the last two days not a single migrant has arrived in Greece. -- SPA 22:45 LOCAL TIME 19:45 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
