LONDON, Jumada II 09, 1437, March 18, 2016, SPA -- Britain's Work and Pensions Secretary Iain Duncan Smith resigned on Friday citing concerns about the latest round of cuts to benefits announced in a budget update earlier this week, the BBC reported, according to Reuters. Local media cited Duncan Smith's resignation letter, which said he had made the decision over cuts to disability payments. "I have for some time and rather reluctantly come to believe that the latest changes to benefits to the disabled and the context in which they've been made are a compromise too far," a copy of the letter posted online by broadcaster ITV said. Finance minister George Osborne came under pressure from other members of his own party earlier on Friday to rethink the plan. --SPA 01:04 LOCAL TIME 22:04 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
