RIO DE JANEIRO, Rabi'II 15, 1437, January 25, 2016, SPA -- Rio de Janeiro's city hall says its health inspectors will be making a special effort to search out breeding grounds of the mosquitoes that cause Zika, a virus Brazilian officials link to a rare birth defect, according to AP. Municipal authorities say inspections have been beefed up at the sites of next month's Carnival celebrations and will be reinforced again before the Aug. 5-21 Olympics. Officials stress that the main outbreak of the virus has been concentrated in other parts of Brazil, though health authorities have acknowledged in the past that the area has been affected. Monday's statement says cases of diseases such as dengue and chikungunya that also transmitted by the Aedes aegypti mosquito are at their second-lowest level in the past five years. --SPA 00:09 LOCAL TIME 21:09 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
