Hong Kong, Muharram 20, 1438, Oct 21, 2016, SPA -- Hundreds of flights were cancelled Friday in Hong Kong as the city braces for the arrival of Typhoon Haima, as dpa reported. As of 11:30 am (0330 GMT) 741 flights were cancelled or delayed, the Hong Kong airport authority said. The typhoon is expected to make landfall approximately 100 kilometers east of Hong Kong, the city's weather observatory said. "As the western part of Haima's eye wall is rather close to Hong Kong, gales will affect the territory for some time," the observatory added. The observatory also advised the public to stay away from the shoreline and schools, most businesses, and the stock market were closed for the day. The government said there had been no reports of landslides or flooding so far. At least eight people died and more than 90,000 were displaced when Typhoon Haima hit the Philippines on Thursday. --SPA 13:43 LOCAL TIME 10:43 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
