Madrid, Sha'ban 7, 1437, May 14, 2016, SPA -- Firefighters have brought under control a massive fire that broke out at an illegal tyre dump south of Madrid, the regional government in Castilla-La Mancha said Saturday, as evacuated residents returned to their homes. A statement said that the resulting plume of thick, black smoke was no longer as toxic as it had been on Friday, when around 6,500 people living in the nearby town of Sesena were forced to flee the area, dpa reported. Most of the evacuees left of their own accord. The authorities later ordered a further 1,000 to leave. After spending the night with relatives or in gymnasiums, the residents of Sesena were able to return to their homes, although officials warned them to keep doors and windows closed. --SPA 19:48 LOCAL TIME 16:48 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
