Arab Health Ministers Council supports Proposal to form Committee to Meet Syrian Refugees Needs

Cairo, Jumada I 23, 1437, March 3, 2016, SPA -- Arab Health Ministers Council assigned to the Technical Secretariat to continue to provide the necessary health needs for Syrian refugees, on the border with neighboring countries, in coordination with the ministries of health and stakeholders in these countries. The Council supported, on conclusion of 45th session, which was held today at the headquarters of the Arab League a proposal of Egypt to form a committee to prepare a comprehensive study on the Syrian refugees, in neighboring countries, situation and identify the urgent health needs of the work to be provided in the light of the data and information to be provided by host countries for Syrian refugees and to report so the Executive Office of the Council at its next session to be held at the of the annual meetings of the World Health Organization, in Geneva on the sidelines of next May. Regarding to Arab Strategy to Fight AIDS 2014-2020, the Council decided to organize two workshops on the role of the media on AIDS response, and the role of awareness and counseling to address the risk of disease, and to invite the Arab Technical Committee to follow up on the Arab strategy to combat AIDS, to convene to evaluate and follow up the implementation of this plan and urged member states, to intensify their efforts in order to implement this strategy and achieve fast track targets and to seek to end the AIDS in 2030, as part of the sustainable development goals beyond 2015. The Council stressed importance of the exchange of health information among Arab countries, in the field of special infectious diseases, especially AIDS, tuberculosis, syphilis, infectious hepatitis b and c, and Leper disease. -- SPA 22:05 LOCAL TIME 19:05 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
