Juba, Jumada I 16, 1437, February 25, 2016, SPA -- UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on Thursday urged South Sudanese President Salva Kiir to speed up the peace process aimed at ending the two-year conflict that has killed tens of thousands, according to dpa. Kiir promised to fully implement the peace agreement he signed with rebel leader Riek Machar in August, Foreign Minister Barnaba Marial told journalists after the president met Ban in the capital Juba. The UN chief also spoke to Machar over the phone. "The secretary general ... assured the president that he will urge Riek Machar to come [to Juba] as soon as possible so that the transitional government of national unity can be formed," Marial said.
