WASHINGTON, Rabi'II 30, 1437, February 09, 2016, SPA -- The White House said Monday that allies of the United States agree that an “impactful response” is needed following North Korea’s rocket launch over the weekend. “There certainly is an agreement about an impactful response being necessary,” White House spokesperson Josh Earnest told reporters. “That means considering a range of economic sanctions that would further isolate North Korea.” Meanwhile, Pentagon spokesperson Peter Cook confirmed to reporters that the United States and South Korea will begin formal talks on deploying an advanced missile defense system called Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) to counter the North’s threat. Pyongyang used a long-range missile over the weekend to launch what it says was a satellite. Such launches are illegal under U.N. measures. --SPA 11:25 LOCAL TIME 08:25 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
