Johannesburg, Rabi'II 26, 1437, Feb 5, 2016, SPA -- Nearly 90 people are trapped in collapsed office buildings and underground at a gold mine in eastern South Africa, dpa quoted a spokesman for the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (AMCU) as saying Friday. "The main offices at Makonjwaan gold mine in Barberton situated in Mpumalanga province tragically caved in at 8.40 am this morning," the trade union said in a statement. "Fifty-two people are inside those offices and [rescuers] have not even started looking for them," spokesman Manzini Zungu said. The collapse had also trapped miners underground, according to the spokesman. About 80 of them were rescued, apparently unharmed, while 35 remained unaccounted for, Zungu said. The union had initially said 115 people were trapped underground. The cause of the collapse was not immediately known. --SPA 13:22 LOCAL TIME 10:22 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
