New York, Rabi'II 11, 1437, January 21, 2016, SPA -- At least 51 UN personnel died in the line of duty in 2015, the UN Staff Union said Thursday, calling on Secretary General Ban Ki-moon to establish a panel to assess the effectiveness of current security measures as threats and attacks have multiplied, according to dpa . The Staff Union said that at least 27 peacekeepers and 24 civilian staffers died in deliberate attacks last year, continuing a trend of increasing death tolls. In 2012, 37 UN personnel were killed. That figure went up to 58 in 2013 and 61 the following year. The union noted that most casualties were recorded in Mali, where 25 UN personnel died last year. South Sudan topped the list of countries for most abductions after nine UN staffers were kidnapped in 2015 - three of them are presumed to be dead. --SPA 22:15 LOCAL TIME 19:15 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
