MEXICO CITY, Safar 26, 1437, December 08, 2015, SPA -- The Mexico City government said it has abandoned plans to build an elevated shopping and park area over a main boulevard, after voters overwhelmingly rejected the plan in a referendum, AP reported. The city government said late Sunday it would respect the vote and not build the Chapultepec Cultural Corridor, which the city hoped would imitate the success of New York City's High Line. The project had drawn opposition partly because it was to be built by private companies, who would get multi-year leases on the commercial space. More than 22,000 residents voted almost 2-1 against it. In a Sunday referendum. --SPA 01:06 LOCAL TIME 22:06 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
