MANAGUA, Nicaragua, Safar 20, 1437, December 2, 2015, SPA -- Nicaragua’s Momotombo volcano spouted a plume of ash roughly 1,000 meters high Wednesday. The 1,297-meter peak in northwest Nicaragua also emitted some glowing rock after gas and ash emissions began. Rosario Murillo, a government spokesperson, said that the hot rock and ash “fortunately … are heading toward very sparsely populated areas.” In 1610, the city of Leon was destroyed during an eruption of the Momotombo and was relocated west, where it currently is located. --SPA 21:14 LOCAL TIME 18:14 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
