HAMBURG, Germany, Safar 17, 1437, November 29, 2015, SPA -- Hamburg residents have rejected the German port city's bid to host the 2024 Olympics in a public referendum, AP reported. Opponents to the games had an unassailable 51.6 percent majority with most of the votes counted Sunday. Hamburg mayor Olaf Scholz says "that's a decision that we didn't want, but it's clear." More than 40 percent of those eligible to vote had already done so through a postal ballot. The result leaves Paris, Rome, Los Angeles and Budapest, Hungary as the sole bidders for the 2024 Games. The IOC will select the host city in September 2017. Germany has not staged an Olympics since the 1972 Summer Games in Munich. Munich's bid for the 2022 Winter Games was also rejected in a referendum. --SPA 23:58 LOCAL TIME 20:58 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
