Kiev, Safar 02, 1437, November 14, 2015, SPA -- At least five Ukrainian soldiers were killed and another four wounded after an attack by pro-Russian separatists with mortar and gunfire, violating a fragile ceasefire in war torn Eastern Ukraine on the eve of municipal elections, a military spokesman said Saturday in Kiev, dpa reported. Pro-Russian rebels opened fire with 82-millimetre mortar rounds in the vicinity of Marjinka outside of Donetsk, and committed other "provocations" near Luhansk, Ukraine army spokesman Andrey Lyssenko said. Observers from The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) had reported increased tensions in the restive region near Donbass. According to the ceasefire terms, both sides are to have pulled military equipment 15 kilometres back from the front lines. Meanwhile, the implementation of peace accords reached in February has moved slowly. The pro-West central government in Kiev and the separatists blame each other for the delays. The second round of mayoral elections are set for Sunday in the former Soviet republic. In Kiev current office holder Vitali Klitschko seeks reelection. The separatist regions in the East will boycott the polls and have threatened to hold their own elections, which would run counter to the peace agreement. --SPA 23:26 LOCAL TIME 20:26 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
