Brussels, Muharram 3, 1437, Oct 16, 2015, SPA -- A migrant was shot dead Thursday in a scuffle between Bulgarian border authorities and a group of migrants thought to be from Afghanistan, a Bulgarian government source told dpa. A fight and exchange of gunfire broke out after border authorities tried to seize around 40 illegal immigrants who had crossed the border between Turkey and Bulgaria, the source said on condition of anonymity. All of the migrants were men, some of them armed, the source said, noting that based on preliminary information, all of them are believed to be Afghans. An investigation is underway. Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov was informed of the incident while in Brussels at an EU summit focused on Europe's migration crisis. He left the talks early. "Prime Minister Borissov informed me just before he left and, for me, it's the next argument [for] how important our discussion was tonight," EU President Donald Tusk told journalists at the end of the summit. "The protection of our external borders is the main priority today, and of course Mr Borissov is absolutely aware that we are ready to help them." -- SPA 03:47 LOCAL TIME 00:47 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
