Geneva, Dhu-AlHijjah 16, 1436, Sep 30, 2015, SPA -- The international Human Rights Council held a general debate today on the human rights situations in Yemen during which it reviewed a report submitted by the Human Rights High Commissioner Zaid bin Raad amid the continual violations of the Houthi rebels and deposed president Saleh. The report covers the period from first of July 2014 to June 30 2015 and confirmed the drastic deterioration of human rights in Yemen following the Houthi rebels usurping the legitimate government in Sanaa, the capital, and controlling parts of the country. The reports demanded the council to take tangible measures to protect human rights in Yemen and open impartial independent international investigation into all violations. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, has, on behalf of the Arab countries group, drafted a resolution for the council to adopt under the 10th Article regarding the technological assistance, and building of abilities to enhance human rights in Yemen. The Arab draft resolution expressed concern on the flagrant violation of human rights and international law due to the use of force by the Houthis and Saleh against the government to achieve political purposes and their continuation in recruiting children, an apparent violation of the international charters and treaties, the kidnapping of political activists and journalists, killing of civilians, prevention of human assistance to reach the needy, cutting off power current and water supplies, and launching attacks on hospitals and ambulances.
