MIAMI, Florida, Dhu-AlHijjah 7, 1436, Sep 21, 2015, SPA -- The U.S. National Hurricane Center (NHC) said Monday that Tropical Storm Ida is strengthening in the open Atlantic Ocean but is not a threat to any land. The NHC said that the storm’s maximum sustained winds early Monday increased to almost 85 kilometers per hour (kph). Additional strengthening is forecast during the next day or so followed by slight weakening Wednesday. Ida was centered roughly 1,670 kilometers east of the northern Leeward Islands and was moving north-northwest near 13 kph. A tropical depression, meanwhile, is bringing heavy rain as it moves inland from the Pacific over Mexico’s Baja California peninsula. The depression’s maximum sustained winds were near 55 kph. Weakening is forecast and the depression likely will degenerate to a remnant low by late Monday. --SPA 20:51 LOCAL TIME 17:51 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
